One sentenced to death, six to 10 years in ‘Tanta Terrorist Cell’ case

The Cairo Criminal Court on Saturday sentenced one defendant involved in the case of “Tanta Terrorist Cell” to death.

The six other defendants who are also involved in the same case were sentenced to 10 years in jail.

In September 2016, the North Cairo Criminal Court handed down death and imprisonment sentences against the seven defendants.

They face charges of forming a terrorist cell with the aim of targeting army personnel and police troops in Gharbiya governorate.

Investigations also revealed that the cell aims to obstruct the constitution and law, prevent State institutions and authorities from performing their duties as well as endangering national unity and social peace.
