Egyptian prosecution ordered Tuesday to temporarily detain the two sons of former President Hosni Mubarak for 15 days over looting state funds.
Although Alaa and Gamal denied the charges, the prosecution ordered to bring them back to Tora prison, where they had already been detained for financial corruption and profiteering charges, official MENA news agency reported.
Investigations revealed that Mubarak took the fund from state general budget, which was allocated for maintenance works of the presidential palaces, and spent it on his and his sons’ villas in Sharm el-Sheikh, Heliopolis and other areas.
A report from the state administrative supervision authority said the total amounts seized by Mubarak and his two sons were nearly 160 million U.S. dollars.
On Tuesday, Cairo Criminal Court ordered temporary release of Mubarak in the case of killing protestors during the 2011 uprising, yet Mubarak had to remain in custody over investigations in other cases.
