Demonstrations return to Tahrir Square

Hundreds of protesters started to flock to Tahrir Square on Thursday evening to participate in a one-million-man march to be organized on Friday.

The demonstrators, who mainly belong to the Muslim Brotherhood, rallied in the square’s central park to protest a ruling acquitting all defendants involved in the Battle of Camel.

They chanted slogans demanding retribution for the victims of the violence. The traffic flow was affected.

The Muslim Brotherhood voiced its deep shock over court rulings that acquitted all the 24 defendants, including several senior former regime figures, in the “Battle of the Camel”.

The group also decided to participate in protests on Friday to be held in Tahrir Square and other squares nationwide to express anger over the acquittals and to call for avenging the martyrs.

The Muslim Brotherhood group in Alexandria urged political and national forces to participate in a million man march under the slogan “The rage of the people of Alexandria” after Friday’s prayer in Sidi Gaber mosque to demand a fair trial for the perpetrators of “Camel Battle”.

For its part, the Revolution’s Board of Trustees expressed its sorrow on the acquittal of senior former regime officials from killing protesters during the revolution in the case better known Battle of the Camel.

The group stressed the importance of holding a retrial for the defendants in the case and urged the attorney general to resign.

Al-Wasat Party, under Abul-Ela Madi, on Thursday urged citizens to take part in protests against the acquittals in the Battle of the Camel trial.

The Islamic Group announced that it will take part in Friday’s protests in Tahrir Square and governorates across the country.

In a statement, the group called for retrying the killers of revolutionaries in line with the information reached by the fact-finding committee.

The group’s demands include also sacking the officials responsible for submitting cases without evidences to the court.
