Facebook pollees want metro station renamed ‘Martyrs’

A Facebook poll conducted by the Egyptian Transportation Ministry has shown that the majority of respondents agree to changing the name of Cairo’s Mubarak subway station to “Shuhadaa” (Martyrs) station.

According to the poll, administered by subway authorities, 3542 respondents out of a total of 6337 approved the name change.

The page suggested five names: Shuhadaa, 25 January, Ramsis, the Revolution and Egypt.

Subway authorities are currently implementing a court ruling to remove the names and pictures of ousted president Hosni Mubarak and his wife from public institutions and squares.

Egyptian revolutionaries recently called for the station to be renamed to commemorate those killed during the 25 January revolution.
