Mubarak-era Trade and Industry Minister Rachid Mohamed Rachid, paid back LE 204,000 for the value of gifts he received from Al-Akhbar, according to Mostafa al-Husseini, attorney general for the Public Funds Supreme Prosecution.
Judicial sources told Al-Masry Al-Youm Saturday that Rachid has paid back all the money required from him related to several cases. As a result, his name was taken off of a government watch list and he can now enter the country without being arrested.
The news about Rachid comes as part of a larger investigation into recovering funds equal to the value of gifts that former regime figures under President Hosni Mubarak received from state-run newspapers.
Public Prosecution spokesperson Mostafa Dowidarhas said Thursday that Rachid had paid back LE15 million to the state in separate cases.
Rachid had filed a request in February with Prosecutor General Talaat Abdallah seeking reconciliation with the state in cases of squandering public funds.
