117 Egypt police deaths since 14 August: Security source

police_strike_front_of_interior_ministryThe police death toll since 14 August has reached 117, with 1063 injured, a security source told the Middle East News Agency on Friday.

Those killed include 28 police officers, 39 policemen, 49 conscripts and one civil servant.

Nationwide clashes have taken place since security forces removed the two main sit-ins supporting ousted president Mohamed Morsi on 14 August, leaving more than 600 dead. Police stations have also been a prime target for attacks.

On Thursday, a bomb attack targeting Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim left 21 injured, including six security officers. The assassination attempt occurred when a bomb detonated near Ibrahim’s convoy in the eastern Cairo district of Nasr City
