15 killed, 1 injured in road accident in Egypt

At least 15 people were killed and one injured in a road accident in Ismailiya governorate in Egypt on Saturday, state-run al-Ahram online reported.

A truck and a micro bus collided face to face when passing through the al-salihia road, al-Ahram online quoted a police officer in Ismailiya as saying.

The corpses of the victims were transferred to a nearby hospital, 11 of which have been identified. The injured person is in bad condition.

The prosecution started to take over the investigation in the road accident.

Traffic accidents are common in Egypt, killing at least 10,000 people each year, according to official reports.

Lack of highway monitoring systems, poor road maintenance and negligence of traffic rules are behind the high rate of road accidents in Egypt.
