6 foot-and-mouth virus spots discovered: Medicine administration

The Central Administration of Preventive Medicine affiliated with the General Organization for Veterinary Services discovered during last week six infection spots of the foot-and-mouth virus in Gharbia, Asyut and Sharqia governorates.

Suhair Abdel Qader, head of the Central Administration of Preventive Medicine, told Youm7 Thursday that the administration introduced all preventive procedures once the infection spots were discovered, according to the latest reports.

She explained that they took samples for laboratory analysis and prevented sales or purchases in the infected farms, adding that there are some programs supported by the government to raise awareness among farmers.

The highly infectious foot-and-mouth virus affects cloven-hooved animals such as sheeps, goats and deer and can be fatal.
