A policeman and a civilian were shot dead in a drive-by shooting in Cairo’s Heliopolis district early on Friday, Egyptian state TV reported. Unknown assailants in two private cars opened fire indiscriminateatly at a police unit in El-Nozha neighborhood. Another policeman was injured in the attack. It was the second such attack in the capital in recent days. On Wednesday, unknown assailants opened fire at an army/security checkpoint from a rooftop in Giza’s Mohandessin district. At least three suspects were arrested after the attack in which no deaths were reported. Security has been tightened up in Cairo and elsewhere amid fears of a violent showdown at mass demos called for by Islamists on Friday,
