A Cairo criminal court has acquitted 62 supporters of ousted President Mohamed Mursi, including one Al Jazeera photographer, who were arrested in violence that erupted in Ramsis Street last July.
Over 60 people, including 27 policemen, were injured in the clashes that erupted in July following Mursi’s ouster.
A judicial source told Aswat Masriya that the prosecution is waiting for the court to release the reasons behind the verdict so that it can appeal before the Cassation Court.
The prosecutor had accused the acquitted of attempted murder, thuggery, using violence against the police, carrying arms illegally and vandalizing public and private property.
They were also accused of blocking the road and disturbing traffic.
Many demonstrations have escalated into violence across Egypt since the ouster of Mursi in July.
