Toll of Egyptians in Medina hotel fire rose to 8, consul in Jeddah

The number of Egyptians who died in the fire that broke out Saturday at Ishraq Hotel in Medina, Saudi Arabia, rose to eight deaths, said Adel el-Alfy Consul General in Jeddah, Sunday.

Alfy told Youm7 that the total number of the fire’s causalities reached 13 deaths, where eight of them were Egyptian pilgrims, one Algerian, a British man and three unidentified bodies.

He noted that all the injured persons left the hospital after treatment, saying that, according to preliminary investigations by Saudi authorities, the deaths and injuries resulted from the inhalation of dense fumes from the fire, which broke out due to a short circuit.

The eight Egyptian victims are to be buried in Medina, and the necessary procedures are being taken to maintain the legal rights of the deceased and the injured, he said.
