BREAKING | Al Jazeera journalist freed

Abdullah al-Shamy, an Egyptian journalist who had been on hunger strike for over 100 days, was released on Tuesday night from a police station in north of Cairo, an Aswat Masriya witness said.

Egypt’s top prosecutor ordered the release of Shamy on medical grounds late on Monday.

Shamy, and 12 others, were arrested on August 14 during the dispersal of two sit-ins held in support of ousted President Mohamed Mursi.
