Workers in Egypt’s public sector will take 31 August to 4 September off from work for the Islamic Eid Al-Adha holiday, Ahram Arabic news website reported.
Eid Al-Adha, or the Grand Feast, is one of the two most important religious holidays observed by Muslims worldwide.
Egypt’s Astronomical and Geophysics Institute announced in July that the first day of Eid Al-Adha will fall on 1 September.
The Day of Arafah, which will fall on 31 August, marks the second day of the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia.
Eid Al-Adha, which lasts for four days, honours the willingness of the Prophet Abraham to sacrifice his first-born son Ismail as an act of submission to God’s command.
