Egyptian police kill 9 suspected terrorists in shootout during raid in Cairo’s Agouza, 5 officers wounded

Nine alleged terrorists have been killed in an exchange of gunfire with police in central Cairo’s Agouza district, an interior ministry official told state-run news agency MENA on Sunday.

Five policemen were also injured during the raid.

The gunmen were planning to carry out a number of terrorist attacks, according to the official, prompting police to conduct the raid.

Egypt’s military and security forces have been battling various Islamist militant groups in Sinai and elsewhere, with some groups in Cairo and Giza conducting deadly attacks on security personnel.

Police frequently conduct raids on suspected terrorist hideouts, often resulting in deadly gun battles.
