Alexandria closes off main port due to bad weather

The Mediterranean city of Alexandria has closed off its main port due to “bad weather conditions”, the port authority spokesman said on Friday.

The port has temporarily been shut down after meteorologists predicted high waves and high wind speeds unsuitable for navigation, Reda Al-Ghandour said in a statement.

Temperatures in the coastal city on Friday were predicted to hit a low of 8 degrees Celsius and a high of 14 C, according to state news agency MENA.

In the capital Cairo, lows of 12 C and highs at 16 C are expected.
