Bomb on track halts trains in Beheira

An explosion on a railway track in Beheira governorate has halted train movement until repairs are completed, railway authority head Ahmed Hamed said in a statement reported by Al-Ahram Arabic news website.

The explosion took place between the villages of Edku and El-Bosaily.

A suspicious package was found on the tracks at Edfu station in Upper Egypt, halting train movements to and from Aswan while investigations are made, Al-Ahram reported

Tens of bombs were reportedly defused by police on the 25 January revolution’s fourth anniversary on Sunday, including many targeting railways in several governorates.

Militants have sustained a campaign against Egyptian security forces since the ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi in 2013. Public facilities such as railways and electricity infrastructure are occasionally targeted.
