BREAKING: Egypt court sentences Islamist Mamdouh Ismail to life in prison

Cairo criminal court sentenced on Monday Islamist Mamdouh Ismail in absentia to life in prison for his role in the violent events in Roed El-Farag in the aftermath of the dispersal of pro-Morsi sit-ins in the summer of 2013, Al-Ahram Arabic news website reported.

The court also issued a not guilty verdict for 14 others, and guilty sentences carrying from between three to ten years in jail for 79 other defndants.

Mamdouh Ismail is a leading member of the radical Islamist group Gamaa Islamiya.
