Copts protest to remove priest involved in ethical issues with Muslims

Coptic Christians in Shobra organized a protest for Wednesday at Saint Mark’s Coptic Orthodox Cathedral to demand removing Fr. Sergius Shehata, who was allegedly involved in ethical and financial issues with Muslims, organizer Amir Samir told Youm7 on Monday.

Samir said the moral and financial deviations of Shehata, the priest of Church of Saint George and Pope Shenouda at Cairo’s district of Shobra Al Kheim, with Muslims in the neighborhood would cause sectarian strife.

St. Macarius, the Bishop of Shobra Al Kheima, refused to meet the protesters to listen to their demands, Samir said. They also met with priests of the archbishopric, who refused to help as well.

They called Rev. Angelos, personal secretary of the Coptic Orthodox Patriarch Tawadros II, to meet the Patriarch.
