Court lists prominent football player among others as terrorist

CAIRO, Jan 17 (Aswat Masriya) – Cairo Criminal Court approved on Tuesday listing a number of public figures as terrorists for three years, judicial source told Aswat Masriya.

The list includes prominent football player Mohamed Abo Treika, former president Mohamed Morsi, and other Muslim Brotherhood leaders.

According to the source, this is a first-degree verdict, which means appeals could be issued against it within the upcoming 60 days.

Moreover, the list includes businessman Safwan Thabet, chancellor Waleed Sharaby, lawyer Essam Sultan, former president assistant Pakinam Al-Sharkawy, and hundreds others whose assets were previously frozen.

As a result of the court decision, the convicts are banned from dealing with their assets, traveling abroad, and holding public posts.

The committee established to manage the funds of the Muslim Brotherhood was formed following a September 2013 court ruling which banned the Brotherhood’s activities in the country. The ruling stipulated banning activities of any association that branches from the Brotherhood, that was founded by Brotherhood funds or that receives any form of support from the Brotherhood.
