Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation executive director Tarek al-Mala said that the current mix of energy sources used in Egypt will not achieve sustainable development and does not have any economic benefits.
During a conference on enterprise restructuring hosted by the Egyptian National Council for Competitiveness on Sunday, Mala added that 91 percent of the produced power in Egypt comes from petroleum and gas.
This situation cannot continue for long as the international average of petroleum and gas usage to produce power is just 62 percent, Mala said.
He further noted that the current electricity problem relates to the lack of gas in power plants as well as the inefficiency of the electricity grid in Egypt, which is discussed to solve in cooperation with the Ministry of Electricity.
