EgyptAir MS804’s second black box found : Egyptian investigation team

An Egyptian investigation team announced Friday that the second black box of EgyptAir MS 804, the flight data recorder, was retrieved from the Mediterranean earlier Friday.

In an official statement issued Friday afternoon, the investigation team said that the vessel John Lethbridge – which was contracted by the government to join the search for the plane debris and flight recorders – found the second black box a day after finding the first black box Thursday.

The team also managed to a safely recover the black box’s memory unit, which the team called “the most important part of the recorder.”

Egyptian prosecutors are currently investigating the crash of the EgyptAir flight, were notified that the second black box was found.

Both black boxes are being transferred to Alexandria for processing by the technical investigation committee.

The discovery of the black boxes come just days after Egyptian investigators announced the batteries of the recorders would run out in two weeks, which would have greatly hindered efforts to discover the cause of the crash.
