Due to the unstable political conditions swamping Egypt at the moment, Egyptian local and satellite TV channels have decided to stop airing romantic or happy songs, and to replace them with patriotic tunes instead. This led Egyptian singers to follow suit and hit the recording studios with songs dedicated to their country which discuss the events taking place there now. The most popular patriotic song dominating the radio scene in Egypt at the moment is “Tislam Al Ayadi” (Thanks to the Hands), which is a group song sung by Mustafa Kamel, Ehab Tawfik, Khaled Ajaj and Suma. Hani Shaker was asked to add his voice to the song, but turned down the offer, claiming that the lyrics aren’t up to his standards – WOW – and that he will release a song on his own which will show his appreciation to the military. Mustafa Kamel is also planning on releasing a new song titled “Shukran Lil Ummah El Arabiyah” (Thanks to the Arab Nations), where he will show his appreciation for the support shown by some Arab countries towards Egyptian people in their time of need. As for Ehab Tawfik, his song “Sit Sa’aat” (Six Hours) has already aired on the majority of Egyptian TV channels. The song shows Ehab’s support to the military and was given to TV channels to air for free. The song “Mish Min Baladna” (Not From our Country) by Angham is also witnessing great popularity and is aired heavily on most television channels. Angham stated on her Twitter account that she has in fact recorded the song 17 years ago. You could have fooled us, Angham!
