Egyptian policeman detained for stealing money from vehicle while on duty

Egyptian prosecutors have ordered the detainment of a policeman accused of stealing a large sum of money from a vehicle while inspecting it at a checkpoint outside Cairo, state news agency MENA reported on Tuesday.

The policeman was on duty at a highway checkpoint near 10th of Ramadan city, in Sharqiya, when he took EGP 150,000 (approx. $9,500) from a vehicle belonging to two contractors that was stopped for a security check.

Prosecutors said the defendant admitted to stealing the money. He has been ordered detaind for four days pending investigations.
