Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood said two of its members were killed after a pro-Mohamed Morsi march was attacked in Cairo in the early hours of Wednesday.
Supporters of ousted President Morsi were marching from the working class district of Shubra to Rabaa Al-Adawiya in Nasr City suburb when they came under attack.
Morsi backers have been setting up a round-the-clock vigil outside the Rabaa Al-Adawiya mosque for more than three weeks.
“Two fatalities & dozens injured with live ammunition after plain-clothed police attacked Shubra’s anti coup rally. More blood on hands of #Military_Coup,” Brotherhood spokesman Gehad El-Haddad tweeted.
The Facebook page of the Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) posted a picture of one of the slain, who it identified as Mahmoud Mostafa Faoud, a 19-year-old resident of the Nile Delta city of Sharqiya.
There has been no official confirmation from Egypt’s health ministry.
“The murders are committed on the orders of Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi,” Brotherhood leader Mohamed El-Beltagy said, referring to the army chief who removed Morsi from power on 3 July after mass protests erupted against his rule.
“El-Sisi and the intelligence are instructing the interior ministry to commit those crimes against peaceful protesters who are punished for merely saying no to the military coup.”
More than 100 have been killed since Morsi’s ouster in clashes pitting his supporters against his opponents and security forces.
Marches from both sides are repeatedly attacked by armed men. The use of live rounds has been common in recent weeks amid an increase in violent protests.
Morsi has been held incommunicado in an unidentified location since his ouster. The army said that measure was taken to protect him.
