Passengers flying to the UK from certain countries will be banned from carrying most electronic devices, Sky sources say.
The ban is not the result of any specific intelligence of an upcoming attack, but is being introduced as a response to the general threat from terrorism to the UK.
The new rules are expected to be announced in the next few hours.
Devices that could be banned from hand luggage include laptops, tablets and cameras.
The announcement follows the news that the US is going to ban electronic devices larger than a mobile phone on US-bound flights taking off from a number of Middle Eastern countries.
