An explosive device went off bringing down an electricity pylon in Sharqiya, in the east Delta, Saturday, resulting in an electricity outages in a number of villages.
The area where the explosion occurred was cordoned off and investigated. No more explosives were found, reported state news agency MENA.
No one was reported injured.
An anonymous source from the electricity directorate of Sharqiya — the third largest governorate by population — said the damaged pylon will be replaced soon.
Egypt has suffered from power cuts for several years, but the crisis took a severe turn for the worse last summer.
The country was also hit with a cluster of bombings after the ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi in 2013.
Earlier on Saturday, a maintenance train was derailed in Egypt’s Suez governorate when a bomb exploded on the railtracks. No one was injured.
