National Circus tamer Medhat Gouda was transferred to Agouza Hospital on Monday after he was attacked by lions, the Theatrical Professions Syndicate said.
Gouda was injured Monday morning when lions suddenly attacked him while he was performing the circus’s usual morning program.
Mahmoud Amer, a member of the Board of Directors of the Theatrical Professions Syndicate, said in a press statement that he would go to the hospital to check on the condition of Gouda.
Amer said workers at the circus fired shots in the air to save Gouda from the lions, adding that no explosion occurred inside the Circus.
Several children and locals had reported hearing an explosion inside the circus on Monday. The Giza Civil Protection Unit was informed and explosives experts moved to the place to investigate the reports.
Investigations revealed that the loud sound was not an explosion but was the sound of shots fired to save the tamer.
