Antiquities Minister Khaled al-Anany has said that the ministry is focusing on neglected archaeological places to be put on the tourist map, adding that the ministry depends on self-efforts in restoration.
The first yet biggest project to document Egyptian antiquities is being launched, he said.
An accurate database is being prepared, in cooperation with the Telecommunications Ministry, to promote the archaeological sites, promote tourism and resume the renewal of regional museums.
The minister visited Atreeb archaeological area in Banha, Tal al-Yahudiya in Shebin al-Qanater and the archaeological relics stores in al-Shoubak in Qalyubia on Sunday.
He said the Ministry will work on the establishment of an archaeological site in Qalyubia to include the contents of Tal al-Yahudiya and Tal Atreeb; in addition to carrying out educational and service projects in the province.
Recently, there has been coordination with the governorate to provide a place to display artifacts in return for land from the governorate to the ministry, he said.
There are 200 archaeological missions working in Egypt in all fields of restoration and excavation.
The minister indicated mulling the erection of high fences at all archaeological sites to protect them against robbery, adding that most archeological sites in the Delta have no walls to help prevent robberies.
