Mubarak calls charges in presidential palaces case ‘unsubstantiated’

Former President Hosni Mubarak denied Wednesday all accusations drawn against him during the presidential palaces hearing, calling the accusations “unsubstantiated.”

Mubarak, along with his sons Gamal and Alaa and other defendants, are facing charges of embezzling an estimated 125 million EGP that was allocated to renovate the presidential palaces.

During the hearing, Mubarak and his sons said, “All that was mentioned by the public prosecution is completely unsubstantiated because it never happened.”

Before the beginning of Wednesday’s hearing, the Criminal Court approved the request by the head of Mubarak’s defense team Farid el-Deeb to meet with the former president prior the start of the session.

The defendants are also facing charges of forgery in official documents and willful squandering of public money.

The case was previously considered before the North Cairo Court which added new defendants to the case and referred it to the public prosecution once again. The public prosecution decided to choose a different court to consider the case other than the one that had stepped down before.
