The United Nations’ Media Office in Cairo denied Tuesday the accuracy of reports in Egyptian media that quoted the World Health Organization (WHO) staff saying Egyptian doctors had died of H1N1 related infections.
“This information about the death of doctors is inaccurate,” the UN said in a statement according to data from WHO.
According to the WHO, the latest data on H1N1 in Egypt shows a total of 172 positive cases, with 16 deaths. Cases also “showed no clustering in Dakahalia Governorate,” added the UN.
“WHO is working closely with the Egyptian authorities to monitor the H1N1 situation in the country,” added the statement.
Al-Masry Al-Youm reported on Monday that WHO advisor in Cairo Nasr Tantawi announced that 14 people died from H1N1 infection, including four doctors, and that 45 cases had been diagnosed in Egypt since January.
