Opening the Palestinian crossings with Israel is essential for reconstructing Gaza – Egypt

Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shukri said on Sunday that opening the Palestinian border-crossings with Israel is a prerequisite for the reconstructing of the Gaza Strip to succeed, in a press conference on Sunday.

Egypt co-hosted a conference with Norway in Cairo to raise funds for the reconstruction of Gaza after the damage caused by the latest Israeli offensive on the strip in July and August which destroyed most of its infrastructure.

Shukri said in the closing of the conference that the amount of financial pledges made ​​by donors delivered a message of international support to help the Palestinian people live a dignified life.

The Foreign Minister added that holding the conference at this time comes to reinforce attempts of negotiations between both sides, explaining that the “final solution to the crisis of the Palestinian people is to reach lasting peace and establish the Palestinian State with East Jerusalem as its capital.”

On his side, the Norwegian Foreign Minister said that his country has decided to hold another conference by the beginning of next year to maintain that funds raised are delivered to the strip and to monitor the implementation of the recommendations of today’s conference in Cairo.
