Ship receives possible signals from crashed EgyptAir plane’s black box: Aviation ministry

A French ship picked up on Wednesday signals from deep in the Mediterranean Sea from what is believed to be the black boxes from the EgyptAir plane that crashed last month, state news agency MENA quoted Egypt’s Civil Aviation Ministry as saying.

An intensive search is currently underway to locate the precise position of the black boxes and extract them using the ship John Lethbridge, owned by the Deep Ocean Search firm, which will join the search efforts later this week.

The EgyptAir Airbus A320 plane crashed into the Mediterranean with 66 people on board during a 19 May flight from Paris to Cairo after disappearing from radar screens.

Recordings on the black boxes could help investigators determine the cause for the crash.
