A supermarket owner was killed late on Monday in clashes between Muslim Brotherhood supporters and neighbors by the Salam Hospital in Damietta, a security source said.
Some of the neighbors had gone to the hospital to check on activist Ahmed Awad who was recently stabbed in a Brotherhood demonstration.
The visit led to confrontations at the hospital and live shots were fired, killing Mohamed Fathy who owns a supermarket in the area.
The security source suggested that Fathy may have belonged to the Brotherhood, explaining that some angry neighbors were destroying property of the group out of anger.
He added that two people were also injured in the attack and some Brotherhood-owned stores were raided.
