Two Egyptian army soldiers killed in North Sinai bomb attack

Two Egyptian army soldiers were killed when an improvised bomb detonated late on Saturday on a road in the North Sinai town of Sheikh Zuwayed, Reuters reported.

At least nine militants were killed in a military operation that took place earlier on the same day during which military vehicles fired on several “terrorist” sites in Al-Thoma, Al-Goura, Al-Moqata’a and Al-Mahdeya areas near the border towns of Sheikh Zuwayed and Rafah.

Since the ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi, both towns have frequently witnessed violent attacks on security checkpoints and facilities which left dozens of army and police forces dead.

Meanwhile, at least 100 militants, deemed to be affiliated to extremist Islamists, were killed in military operations, according to army reports, and at least 250 others were arrested.
