U.S. Embassy Cairo, Egypt Security Message for U.S. Citizens

November 26, 2014

Given the public calls for demonstrations throughout Egypt on Friday, November 28, 2014, the U.S. Embassy has advised its employees to exercise particular caution regarding personal movements on that day, especially around and after the noon prayer hour. The Embassy has advised employees to avoid areas where demonstrations have traditionally occurred, including university campuses, Cairo’s Tahrir Square, and the Matareya neighborhoods, and to immediately vacate any area where large crowds of demonstrators, police, and/or military personnel have gathered or where protest activity is already occurring.

The Embassy reminds U.S. citizens to review their personal security plans and remain alert to their surroundings at all times in Egypt. For the latest security information, U.S. citizens traveling abroad should regularly monitor the Department of State’s Internet website where the Worldwide Caution, Country Specific Information for Egypt, Travel Warnings, and Travel Alerts, can be found.
