We will stand by Egypt in fight against terrorism, says EU

The European Union (EU) spokesperson said the EU would support the Egyptian government in its fight against terrorism after Monday’s car bomb attack in Cairo which killed the country’s prosecutor-general Hisham Barakat, in a statement on Monday evening.

“We express our condolences to the family of Egypt’s Prosecutor-General Hisham Barakat, who died following a terrorist attack in Cairo this morning,” the statement added.

President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi attended on Tuesday morning  funeral prayers for Barakat in El-Moshir Tantawy Mosque.

Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab and other senior Egyptians officials attended the funeral.

The deadly attack on Barakat hit the country’s top prosecutor near the military academy in the upscale district of Heliopolis, as his motorcade left his home on its way towards his office.

Nine people were injured by the car bomb, and 31 vehicles were damaged.
