Cairo witnesses tight security ahead of Brotherhood demonstrations

Police have intensified security measures in major Cairo squares on Friday ahead of demonstrations for the National Coalition for Supporting Legitimacy.

The coalition has called for staging demonstrations on Friday as part of their ongoing weekly rallies. 

Several military vehicles and groups of security personnel were deployed in Tahrir Square near the Egyptian Museum’s main gate and in Simon Bolivar Square, the Middle East News Agency correspondent said.

In Rabaa al-Adaweya Square, central security forces and one armoured vehicle were deployed on Tayaran Street, which leads to the square.

Security forces also intensified their presence at the Ittihadeya Presidential Palace in Masr al-Gedida while two military vehicles were stationed in front of Gate Four, opposite Heliopolis Club.

Police and army forces jointly secured all entrances leading to Cairo as well.
