A low-ranking police officer was shot and killed in front of his house early Thursday in Al-Arish city, North Sinai.
Security sources told Aswat Masrya website that officer was shot 12 times in front of his wife and children by unknown gunmen.
Since July 2013, over 100 policemen have been killed in North Sinai alone in attacks carried out by suspected militants.
Militants also attacked a security checkpoint in El-Masaeed area in Al-Arish early Thursday morning.
According to eyewitnesses, there was a heavy exchange of fire between the assailants and security forces that lasted for hours.
